As a vet, Katrina knows that the welfare of animals encompasses not only their physical state, but their mental and psychological state as well - which is why she is totally opposed to factory farming.
Life in a factory farm not only impacts on the physical well-being of chickens and pigs but on their emotional well-being - to the point that research has shown that mother pigs can suffer from depression, so dreadful is their individual confinement. For hens - laying their eggs in a nest in privacy is their most natural urge - yet even this is denied them in a battery cage.
Katrina has shared her life with two beautiful dogs - Toby and Riley. But she would be the first to say that animals that have traditionally been thought of as 'food' will form similar loving bonds with us, given the opportunity. That it's time, not to think of animals under labels of 'friend' or 'food', but rather to remember that they are all living, breathing, feeling beings who share this world with us - equally deserving of care and protection.
Through her radio show and public appearances, Katrina knows only too well that Australians are a nation of animal lovers - which is why she passionately believes that we can make a world without the cruelty of factory farming ... possible.
